PokerStars introduces 6+ Hold'em tables

As all new formats, PokerStars created a new tab in the lobby for 6+ tables and also does the rest, automatically seating you at a random table (the player only chooses the stake he wants to play). There are 10 levels available, starting at NL2 up to NL2k. At the tables, only the player with the button posts the blind, and the other players post an ante of the same amount. The standard buy-in at all stakes is 200bb and the minimum is 150 big blinds.

Due to this is not possible to see the table list in the lobby, so we cannot know for sure the traffic, but in our test, we found active tables in 8 of the 10 stakes available, so it is not crazy to think that the traffic is good and during the peak time it increases.

Unlike all the new formats introduced by PokerStars in the past, and despite the high variance, 6+ Hold'em at PokerStars can be beaten, mainly helped by the favorable rake structure:

Attention! Please note that the 6+ Hold'em version at PokerStars has one big difference with the traditional short deck: the straight is stronger than three of a kind. Therefore, the standard strategy needs to be adjusted, for example, small pocket pairs completely lost its value and it's even better not to play them, and suited connectors have more value than ever.

Basic 6+ Hold'em strategy

Although 6+ Hold'em (online version) has been present for over 2 years (we have recently written several articles about it), there has been little development in strategies. And about support software, only CombCalc6Plus is available.

We also commented about the general rules and strategy the year, and today we add a little few tips. The main difference between traditional Hold'em and 6+ Hold'em is that the last one is played with fewer cards, resulting in a different card and hand value. In short, it means that the starting hand selection gives more power to suited cards and reduces the value of all other, except for pocket pairs (but please keep in mind the comment we made before about the 6+ Hold'em rules at PokerStars).

In the traditional hold'em, if there are two similar starting hands, always a suited one is more desirable. In 6+ Hold'em, due to the low probability of hitting a flush and the fact that flush is stronger than a full house, suited cards have much more power. Usually, a flush on the board is the nut hand, because those can only lose against four of a kind.

Therefore, the main criteria when choosing starting hands in short deck hold 'em is suited cards. For example, JTs is much better than JTo. If we compare with regular Hold'em, is like having 44 against 54o.

Post-flop, the action in 6+ Hold'em depends on the board's texture. If the flop is a rainbow, you can play aggressively, otherwise (with 3 or more suited cards on the board) you need to control the pot and be ready to fold a set if the bets get higher. 6+ Hold'em can be called a game of flushes and sets.

Conclusion

2019 started very well for 6+ Hold'em, as being added to the PokerStars lobby makes the game much more popular. It also became known that this year the WSOP will have a short deck hold'em event with a $10,000 buy-in.

The 6+ Hold'em tables are very fun and fans really enjoy it, despite the high variance. In that scenario, the professional poker players have an opportunity to play against weak players and earn more profits.
